About the Seminar
Dr. Heather Stur will discuss writing a research proposal and offer advice for crafting a successful proposal. Topics will include setting a research agenda, explaining the project in a clear manner for non-specialists, and emphasizing a project's significance. Dr. Stur will also discuss her research experiences in Vietnam and will gladly answer questions about her own research projects.

Dr. Heather Stur is an associate professor of history at the University of Southern Mississippi, USA, and a fellow in the university's Dale Center for the Study of War and Society. Dr. Stur is spending the 2013-14 academic year as a Fulbright Scholar in Vietnam, where she is a visiting professor in the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City. Her first book, Beyond Combat: Women and Gender in the Vietnam War Era, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2011, and she is the author of several articles on issues of diplomacy, war, and gender. She is currently conducting research for a book about Saigon intellectuals in the 1960s and 1970s. Dr. Stur has received numerous awards from organizations including the US State Department, the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Wisconsin, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, and the Gerald R. Ford Foundation. Dr. Stur holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin.
