On 9 August 2012, Professor Nguyen Van Tuan (University of New South Wales, Australia) delivered a talk on “the Presence of Vietnamese Social Sciences in the World” at IRED’s office. Professor Nguyen Van Tuan shared his perspectives and evidence-based research on the current situation of social sciences research in Vietnam. More than 60 university lecturers, researchers, education officials and graduate students attended the seminar. Overall, the number of internationally published studies in social sciences, including in education remains modest compared with many neighboring countries in Asia. The quality of research papers is still a question. Many participants also shared their viewpoints on the issues, causes and potential solutions to improving the quality and quantity of social sciences research in the country.
